We are very excited to announce that Benchmark Benefit Solutions is holding our first Workplace Summit on January 21, 2021! Every month Benchmark hosts a webinar where we cover a trending topic in health and wellness, and this month we are doing something a little bit differently for the holidays!
Benchmark is hosting veteran restauranteur and sommelier Mark Parnega to show us some of his personal twists on classic cocktails!
Alberta’s new Biosimilar Initiative will be taking effect on January 15th, 2021, but what is this initiative and how will this potentially impact your benefits program?
To start, Alberta’s Biosimilar Initiative will be discontinuing coverage on several originator biologic drugs. Plan member’s who are affected by this will be required to switch to biosimilar versions, in order to maintain coverage through the province’s drug plan. This initiative will mostly impact biologic drugs that treat autoimmune diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriasis, Neutropenia, and Multiple Sclerosis among others.
In response to this, some benefits providers are creating their own internal legislation that could provide more flexibility for the plan member when compared to Alberta’s new standard, whereas others are following the example set by the Province and are requiring their plan members to change to the biosimilar alternatives on January 15th.

- What is one thing you try to include in your everyday life that keeps your wellness & mental health top of mind? Focus on unplugging for even half an hour a day to meditate, take a walk, or simply reflect on your day. It is easy to get tunnel vision, but refocusing and taking a step back is key!
